God’s Way or the My Way

I call heaven and earth to witness your choice today, whether for life or death, to be blessed or cursed. Choose life so you and your descendants may live. Choose life by loving the Lord your God, hearing his voice, and doing what he wants without reservation. — Deuteronomy 30:19–20 The Discussion Bible

I once thought acceptance meant settling down,
Just nodding along with a shrug and a frown.
But truth has a way of tugging the heart—
A whisper from Heaven that pulls us apart.

We want what we want, and we think we know best.
We cling to our plans and ignore all the rest.
But God’s way is wiser, though hidden from view,
Like treasure that’s buried, awaiting what’s true.

Control is a trap that we often admire,
But it burns in our hands like a lively little fire.
We grasp and we grip with a fearful insistence,
When freedom is found in a holy resistance.

Some things we accept without ever a thought,
Because they align with the lies we were taught.
But truth isn’t shaken, and truth doesn’t bend.
It waits till we’re willing to see and to mend.

The Holy Spirit is gentle, yet firm in his pace,
Revealing what’s real with astonishing grace.
He shows us the depths of what we should know,
Like the part of the iceberg that’s hidden below.

Acceptance, dear friend, is a choice that we make,
To trust in the truth for our eternal future’s sake.
Not blind, not afraid, and not based on demand—
We do well to put our lives in God’s capable hands.

The path we accept is eternal reward gained or lost,
A crown made of light, or a dark abyss at very great cost.
One direction ends in glory, the other in pain—
So choose what is lasting, not fleeting and vain.
