People will ask as I’m passing on through,
“How are you doing?” though they haven’t a clue.
It’s a common saying, just a greeting they give,
Because they have no idea how I actually live.
I smile and respond, not with things heavy-hearted,
“I’m doing great,” I say, “but I’m just getting started.”
Their brows often rise, unsure what I mean.
Was I hopeful or humble? Bold or serene?
There’s a fire that’s lights my soul,
A calling, a purpose, a heavenly goal.
I’m growing. I’m learning. I’m shedding the past,
And living a dream I want others to catch fast.
I’ve stumbled and tripped, as we all sometimes do,
But I’ve found a new rhythm, a path breaking through.
We should never let the past be a distraction
When the future is where we should focus our action.
Each sunrise I meet is a step in the race.
With passion and grace, I pick up the pace.
Next time you ask how my life is charted,
I’ll say it again: “I’m just getting started.”
