Use What You’ve Got

Be generous in giving of what you have received, as good servants who demonstrate the abundance of God’s grace. — 1 Peter 4:10 The Discussion Bible

God gives us all gifts—some big and some small,
But not just for sitting or showing off at all.
They’re tools for his Kingdom, not trophies for pride.
They’re meant to be used, not buried or to hide.

Some gifts are for speaking, or lending a hand.
Others write, make music, or help people stand.
When we use our gifts the way God has planned,
We’re part of his purpose throughout our land.

There are some people who unwrap not a thing.
They hide all their talents and never take wing.
They sit in church pews and sing every song,
But serving? No thanks. They just hum right along.

They feel God’s presence. They cheer and they clap,
Then head home to watch TV, enjoy a snack, and take a nap.
But faith isn’t just for the fuzzies and the glow—
It’s for the shining light that Jesus has called us to show.

A lamp in the closet is wasting its light.
A voice kept in silence won’t help what’s not right.
So offer your gift, though it may not seem grand,
And watch what God does with it placed in his hand.

Don’t try to be someone you’re not meant to be,
For God has a plan that fits you perfectly.
Like David, don’t wear what just doesn’t quite fit—
God’s armor for you is the perfect outfit.

Moses, you remember, held only a rod—
But that stick did miracles by the power of God.
So what’s in your grip? Don’t say it’s too slight.
God uses the humble to show off his might.

So ask not for more, but for wisdom and grace
To use what you’ve got in your own time and place.
Desire to learn. Then put your talents to use—
For gifts are for giving, not meant for excuse.

Don’t keep your gifts hidden or stack them in rows,
Let God light the spark, and see where it goes.
Your calling is yours, and your purpose is true—
And no one can do what God’s planned just for you.
