Cautious Confidence

Don’t be like the stupid horse or mule that can only be led by bit and reins, unwilling to go the Master’s way without being forced. — Psalm 32:9 The Discussion Bible

I wanted to write, but I didn’t know what to do.
My brain turned to jelly. My courage was through.
“What if,” I whispered, “my words make no sense?
What if I’m mocked or ignored or too intense?”

I stared at the page. With a frown, I just sighed.
“Lord,” I said, “what would happen if I just tried?”
A whisper came softly, “Start with what you know.
After planting a seed, you can see what will grow.”

I scribbled one sentence, then added a few more.
Some words became stories, and more was in store.
Each line wasn’t perfect, but wow! What a start.
With each little effort, I wrote from the heart.

At times I stumbled, unsure what to say,
But prayer gave me courage to write anyway.
Not for the praise or the spotlighted view—
I wanted to write something comforting and true.

When doubt tried to tell me, “You’re wasting your time,”
I rejected that thought and wrote a little rhyme:
“My writing has purpose. It’s guided from above.
I write with God’s help. I write from his love.”

Here’s a lesson for those with a thought to write:
Don’t wait till you’re flawless or have everything just right.
Be bold in your calling to what God shows you is true.
The world needs the message he would speak through you.
