Some walk through the store with their eyes on floor.
They bump into folks as they stroll toward the door.
They don’t even notice the people in their way.
Their world is quite small, and they like it that way.
But loving and living with kindness and care
Takes more than just knowing somebody’s there.
It calls for a heart that always wants to see
The hopes and hurts of both you and me.
Sympathy is nice, but it’s little more than a glance.
Empathy joins in both the pain and the dance.
It listens and learns. It kneels to pray,
Saying, “I’ll walk with you all the way.”
But how can we do that? It’s hard to begin.
This kind of love must come from deep within
As we see as God sees and love as he loves.
We need help and wisdom from Heaven above.
Jesus came down to this world full of pain.
He walked in the sun and wept in the rain.
Knowing what we needed before we could speak.
He touched the forgotten, the broken, and the weak.
He asked many questions. He listened with grace
And saw what was hidden in a heart or a face.
Although he was sinless, he stopped to be near—
To comfort the crushed and to calm every fear.
How do we grow in this heavenly view?
We start by admitting we don’t have a clue.
We pray, “Lord, help me to care and to see—
To feel with the new heart you’ve given to me.”
Sensitivity’s more than a clever disguise.
It’s opening our hearts and not closing our eyes.
We choose to love with a spiritual touch—
Not just saying, “I’m sorry,” but meaning as much.
It’s pausing to notice, to ask and to learn,
To show our respect and to seek no return.
It’s not just a talent or natural trait.
It’s something that grows as God makes us great.
We don’t get perfection. We still stumble and try.
We sometimes walk past when we ought to stand by.
But every small step that we take on the way
Draws us a bit closer to loving God’s way.
So open your heart and let go of the pride.
Let God be your compass and his presence your guide.
Be someone who listens and learns how to care—
Who quietly loves just because God is there.
