When called to dinner, I wasn’t allowed at the table until I had washed my hands with soap and water. Sometimes, I had to wash my face as well. According to my mother, “Cleanliness was next to godliness.” What was the problem? I’d had a bath the night before.
When coming in from a dirty world, clean people need to wash up.
Since we are promised this relationship with God, let’s cleanse ourselves from all filth, both physical and spiritual, respecting who he is and wanting to be like him.
— 2 Corinthians 7:1
Ten Thoughts to Ponder
- As we walk with the Lord, what others see as problems are our opportunities.
- A working writer doesn’t complain about God’s assignments.
- A goal without conscious pursuit is meaningless fantasy.
- Like electricity, we don’t have to understand God to flip the switch and have the light come on.
- I don’t know. I think I know but don’t. I think I don’t know but do. Those are three good reasons why I need God’s guidance, because without him, I don’t know enough.
- When I move closer to the Lord, I can hear him better.
- Because we live in a filthy world, we should frequently wash up and feast upon God’s Word.
- A move toward God is a step in the right direction, but to walk close to him, we must avoid distractions and stay focused on wherever he wants us to go.
- To deliver God’s message effectively, we must be listening.
- Inspiration has little value without perspiration.
Questions for Further Thought
- How much scrubbing do we really need before we are completely clean?
- Why are some people concerned about their appearance but not who they are on the inside?
